This handmade card is meticulously constructed from cut pieces of paper, creating a distinctive, three-dimensional look.
Cards from Africa are handcrafted by young adults in Kigali, Rwanda. Fair Trade practices are strictly followed. The cardmakers are mostly orphans who lost parents due to war, genocide or HIV/AIDS. Each craftsperson supports at least one younger sibling. Workers have a minimum age of 18 and earn 4 to 6 times the average Rwandan's $1 per day. Cards from Africa is the inspiration of British founder Chris Page and Rwandan artist Gabriel Dusabe, who teamed up to launch Cards from Africa in 2004. Learn more about Cards from Africa.
Environment: Handmade papers are made from office waste—discarded paper scraps that would otherwise be destined to burn. Without chemicals, the cardmakers create various textures, using natural products.
